Proteus Yacht Club (PYC) is a unique club with a focus on Junior Sailing and Sailors. Junior Sailors play and equal role in the management and daily operations of the club. Membership in Proteus Yacht Club is offered at two (2) levels, including: Regular or Full membership (with voting rights) being offered to Junior Sailors under the age of 18 (or 21 under certain conditions); and Sustaining / Supporting Memberships offered to Sailors over the age of 21, including parents, coaches, and others who wish to support Proteus Yacht Club’s mission.
PYC's program is designed to support serious junior sailors at all ability levels with a focus on growth and advancement of sailing abilities, and in the case of the Optimist, advancing to the next level of sailing, including the GREEN, WHITE, BLUE, or RED Fleets. In addition to PYC’s focus on building sailing skills, PYC also promotes making new friends, sportsmanship, fostering teamwork and strengthening respect for oneself and others while furthering the sport of sailing and the Corinthian Spirit. While PYC leadership and members are under age 18 (or 21), the sailing program is overseen by a professional program director, a professional coach, and an exceptional team of national and international coaches and adults.
Proteus Yacht Club is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, with a dedicated board of directors overseeing operations and safety. PYC supports the USODA, US Sailing, and the CBYRA. PYC extends an open invitation for other clubs, junior sailing programs and Jr. Sailors to sail with us any time we are on the water.
LEARN
PYC and Team Breakwater embraces a learning environment which we hope will prepare junior sailors for the next level of sailing and for the rest of their lives. Beginning with the Optimist, Team Breakwater encourages Sailors to evolve to the next level, including High School, College and beyond.
SAIL
PYC and Team Breakwater's mission is to involve as many young people as possible in the sport of sailing through a fun, educational atmosphere and to keep them involved and growing on a personal level for many years. Team Breakwater invites High School and College Sailing recruiters for networking recruitment opportunities.
Coach Adam recently accepted a position with his alma-mater, St. Mary’s College, as an assistant head sailing coach. Adam finished off an impressive collegiate sailing career at St. Mary's College by skippering the Seahawks to second place in B Division at the ICSA/Gill Co-Ed National Championships as a senior as the team finished 14th overall. That performance came on the heels of him skippering St. Mary's to first place in B Division at the ICSA/Gill Co-Ed Western Semifinal, boosting the Seahawks into the national championships with an eighth-place overall finish. He also skippered the Seahawks to second place in B Division at the America Trophy (the MAISA Spring Co-Ed Championships) as St. Mary's finished second overall in the conference. During his collegiate sailing career, Adam turned in over a dozen top-five divisional finishes.
With more than 16+ years of coaching experience, and as certified US Sailing Dinghy Level 3 Coach, Adam spent this summer serving as the Assistant Program Director at Miles River Yacht Club in St. Michaels, Md. and as the Optimist Race Coach at Annapolis Yacht Club, the Head 420 Race Coach at Beverly Yacht Club in Marion, Mass., and as the Optimist and C420 Coach at Pleon Yacht Club in Marblehead, MA. In addition he was recently the Head Collegiate Sailing Coach at Washington College, Chestertown, MD.
Proteus Yacht Club & Proteus Racing are pleased to have such a talented and highly skilled Coach Adam as a leader with our sailing programs.

This is where we, as sailors start...
The Optimist (“Opti”) is sailed in over 120 countries and it is one of only two yachts approved by the International Sailing Federation exclusively for sailors under 16. Optimists sailors can continue to race up to the age of 15. Optimists are single handed boats (See www.usoda.org )
The Laser is an International Single Handed performance boat and may be sailed in 3 classes, including the Full Rig, Radial Rig, and 4.7 Rig. The Laser represents the next level in single handed sailing at the Jr. Sailing, High School and Collegiate levels.
The Club 420 is a 2 person dinghy which is the primary boat for High School and Collegiate programs. The C420 offers more learning opportunities than any other double-handed boat. Over 5,000 C420s are sailed in Jr., high school and collegiate programs all over the US
